Christmas Adverts - The Best, The Worst & This Year's!

.
Any other time of the year I'm not a lover of adverts. I'm actually one of those annoying people that mute the sound when the ads come on haha. But come Christmas time I love watching out for the festive ads from all the big brands.

So here are a few of the main Christmas adverts this year (I have some how managed to review them not meaning to!) and also my picks of the best and worst from previous years!

Oh, I'm not too sure about this one! I'm not a huge fan of adverts that make me feel sad right until the last minute and then it all comes together. Also I could help but think 1. Surely there was an easier route to get to John Lewis 2.He should have been melting 3. He wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes on a busy high street, someone would have surely knocked him down 100%! Pessimistic thoughts aside, I do really like when the music kicks in and the ending is quite touching. But sadly not a patch of the last two year's of John Lewis Christmas ads.

I loved last year's Boots "Here Come The Girls" Christmas ad, but I'm thinking this is also quite good but in a more, you can relate to it kind of way. Adore the "lets make you into a unicorn" part and the little girl painting her grandads toe nails! But just two points - Really what does the backpackers say after she opens the present from her mum? And also really Boots... did you need to put two red headed people together? Silly me must think people can be attracted to 'gingers'!

Really love this Matalan ad as it is quite true to life and a lot of people's Christmas Day. Such as the girl wearing her coat over her pyjamas, the teenager on the sofa not joining in and the mum being coy coming down in her Christmas Day dress. Also the ending is lovely with the little boy in the donkey onesie being carried to bed. The only thing I'm not keen on is the voice over, way too much talking. A good Christmas-y song would have been much nicer, but I do still like it quite alot.

This started off really promising with a nice festive tune from Rod Stewart, but then the song changed, then it changed again, and then again... and again. Just too much of a mash up of songs and not Christmas songs either! Also it seemed like M&S wanted to cram as much clothing as they could into the 51 seconds! Yep, not loving this one.

 Favourite past Christmas Adverts...

This has to be the best ever Christmas ad, it's just so iconic now and I know many people that say it's not Christmas until you see the Coca Cola Christmas trucks advert. I know Coca Cola have tried bring out new Christmas ads in past years, like Father Christmas 'shaking up Christmas' with a snow globe... yeah, that didn't work. But this year I am pretty sure they are bringing back the 1995 classic Christmas Trucks ad but re-mastered... which is the above advert. Love it!

This was John Lewis' 2010 Christmas ad but I can still remember it because I loved the Ellie Goulding cover of 'Your Song'. I'm sure this won't be everyone's favourite but I just thought it was quite nice and subtle. Also love the little boy giving the dog a stocking, though I always think the dog should be all warm inside and not out in the snow - poor thing!

 Most Annoying Christmas Advert...

I am so glad we didn't have to endure this advert in the UK. I mean really... how annoying is the screaming and the loud-ness of it all. Also now having watched it a few times I keep on singing "I love my comfy sweater" and frankly want to stab myself - not festive! Just no, Gap.

What are your favourite Christmas ad and which of this year's Christmas ads have you liked so far?
 Let me know!

Fee xo.

  1. It isn't officially Christmas till the Coke advert is seen, on TV!
And I haven't seen it yet and that makes me sad because I want it to be "officially" Christmas.

  2. I love the tone of the John Lewis one, & Gabrielle Aplin sings the track and she's a local girl, so I like that.. even if the snowman bit is perhaps a bit far!

I love this year's Asda advert, actually :)

  4. I have to agree with most of this post, it really isn't Christmas until I've seen the Coke ad, although one year I didn't see it until Dec 22nd! The John Lewis one isn't as good as the past two years, they are always spot on on the music though. Boots one I love, I wasn't so keen on last years, it was festive and fun but sometimes the 'girls' ads were just a bit annoying. I thought their autumn ad was the best one out of the collection. The M&S ad is VERY annoying, and not at all festive. And for all the press they've received about having a child with Down's Syndrome in the ad, he's only they're for about 2 seconds! Very good post though Fee :D

  7. The Boots advert… really? This made me yearn for the return of "Here come the girls" and I hated that. I think I'm enjoying the series of Sainsbury's vignettes the most. Oh well, all a matter of personal taste.

Anyhow, it will be interesting to see how this Boots ad fairs in our annual poll on the best and worst over at christmasadvert.com. It seems you are not alone in liking it!
